The Great Eight

The Great Eight

Another trip around the sun for our sweet Ady Boops!

Our poor March baby had school, of course but it just happened to be a Friday, so he lucked out. Since we keep birthdays pretty simple, Adrien picked a K-Pop Demon Hunters theme. Naturally, I’m too cheap to buy anything more than $10 for a cake topper… so it was fairly mid .

We had your typical birthday. He chose a spread of Chinese food, specifically teriyaki shrimp. Both kids are sweet homebodies who rarely have any desire to be in chaotic places. While they’re always offered, it’s usually a no. Their idea of going somewhere is a local park… thank goodness.

We had a couple of his friends over on Saturday for a playdate while Charles was at a friend’s birthday party. This was the first time Adrien has had anyone over, and I was nervous. I thought it might be awkward…that they’d be quiet and not really play but that wasn’t the case at all.

We had two sweet boys over with no destruction, just lots of outdoor play. They were in the woods, making up games in the driveway, just being kids. We all know how much I love my kids playing outside…90s mom for life. They had pizza, veggies, and some sweet treats!

I know this…these simple birthdays, these simple driveway games won’t always look like this. Kids’ birthdays aren’t about the big, over the top things… they’re about feeling celebrated, feeling known, and getting to be exactly who they are. And I love keeping them simple and full of what they actually love. That happened to be K-Pop Demon Hunters this year and I gotta say.. .me too, Ady, me too. Such a good movie!

Our little family of four is my comfort. It’s where I feel the most grounded, the most myself. Being their safe place is something I never take for granted, and I hold that role so close. I truly believe we’ll stay close forever, and I will always be proud of the way we’re raising them and I know they’ll alway find comfort in coming home. Happy eighth Birthday, Adrien… You’re my soda pop, my little soda pop
